If sport is your thing whilst on holiday or you just fancy having go, play tennis at the Aztec Sports Centre or the new Club Del Sol. Try the water sports at Cabopino, or play golf at one of the many excellent local golf courses, Club Siesta, just two minutes from Las Palmeras, or instead sample Cabopino Golf Course. Although there are quite a few more nearby if you want plenty of variety. Why not go shopping for the latest fashions in the modern shopping centres of Fuengirola, Marbella and Puerto Banus or simply try to haggle for a bargain at the local weekly markets. If you spend too much one can always try and win some of your expenses back by having a flutter horse racing at Hipodromo Race Course.
If you do not fancy moving too far Calahonda has three good commercial centres, which house most of the development’s 45 restaurants, cafeterias and pubs as well as seven banks, and several supermarkets. Calahonda is known as one of the leading and most popular residential communities on the Spanish Costa del Sol, whose population swells from just 14,000 to 45,000 in the high season. This, of course, ensures the population is well catered for.
Las Palmeras de Calahonda is very easy to reach, being just 25 minutes drive from Malaga International Airport. You can either take the coastal road or the toll road if you are collecting your hire car at the airport. There are plenty of car hire facilities available at Malaga Airport. If you do not wish to drive, a taxi will cost approximately 50 Euros each way. One can also fly into Gibraltar International Airport, some 60 minutes away. We regularly fly into both airports, depending on the cost of flights. Calahonda is also very well serviced by buses.

The cottage is an old fisherman’s cottage and is located just a few steps away from the beach and slipway. It is only a short, flat walk to the local amenities. The cottage is well equipped as you might expect and the comfortable lounge even has a living flame gas fire, maybe for those romantic winter evenings. Nearby there are a couple of beaches to visit, pubs to eat in, gardens and even a golf course.
Just behind Coast Cottage in terms of bookings is another cottage known as Sowton Mill Cottage in Dunsford, Dartmoor National Park. Again, a small cottage sleeping only 4 adults, but it might not be suitable for toddlers as there is deep water just yards from the cottage. This is because the cottage is the converted part of a watermill, which makes the accommodation a bit unusual, which in turn might be the appeal to some people.
Both bedrooms are twins, so suitable for parties of friends as well as couples. There are some good local pubs to eat at near by and it is only about 10 minutes to local fishing and golf facilities to keep you active. A little further away, about 30 minutes, you will find the seaside and horse riding plus chances for rambling and various National Trust properties to visit.

Acoteias in the Algarve is a good choice of holiday location for villas in Algarve, with wonderful year round weather including a substantial 300 days a year of sunshine. Beaches
Praia de Falesias is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Algarve and its perfect golden sand is set against the red sandstone cliffs. It is a Blue Flag beach with a children’s playground to keep them entertained and a good choice of water sports from the beach to take part in over the summer. This beach is just minutes away from Acoteias and is one of the many fantastic beaches within reach. There are, of course, an excellent choice of golf courses around Acoteias – enough for most visitors to be entertained on every day of a holiday whilst never visiting the same course twice. About 10 minutes away from Acoteias is the golfing centre of Vilamoura with six superb golf courses and a good variety of different challenges and settings along with pro shops, equipment for hire and practice facilities. Near to Acoteias is the 9-hole golf course called Pine Cliffs, with a truely spectacular final hole called the Devils’ Parlour that is over a ravine with views down to the beach below.
Family Fun
There is also plenty to entertain the entire family of all ages in the area. For water parks, try out Aqualand with slides, infant areas and high adrenaline slides. Slide and Splash has landscaped gardens in addition to entertaining breathtaking rides and more gentle baby rides. And in SeaWorld, you can even swim with the dolphins for an experience to remember.
Other family entertainment in the area includes a petting farm with goats and deers, called Krazy World. Being located in the Algarve, it has its very own 18-hole crazy golf courses. Also visit Amazonia, which features Amazonian creatures such as alligators, crocodiles macaws and turtles to name but a few.
Nightlife
Local nightlife is quiet and relaxed and Acoteais is not a busy all night resort, but Albuferia is not that far away for those looking for this kind of night time entertainment.
Outside Acoteais

Faro is the airport you will probably fly in through and rather than just thinking of it as an airport it is well worth a visit to the cobbled streets of the old town or a visit to 13th century Se Cathedral, for plenty of architectural interest and views of the town. Less than an hour away in the car is the Serra de Monchique mountain conservation area, which is superb as a location for exploring on the back of a horse or by bike or just walking.

Roman Baths and Aqueduct: GPS Location: 36º 23′ 10” N 5º 15′ 12” W
Sulphur,did you know, is the ninth most abundant element of the entire universe. In historical times sulphur was previously known as Brimstone, famed for its reputed medicinal properties. Bathing in sulphur springs to maintain or improve the condition of the skin or to cure some epidermal complaint has been commonplace since time immemorial.
To find the local Roman sulphur baths you just take the road beside the Lidl supermarket on the coast road, 5 minutes from Casares Del Sol. On the left you will see a concrete area. This is the location of the weekly Sunday market. Keep going and where you see sign for the Roman Oasis Restaurant, turn right and you will find the Roman Sulphur Baths of Hedionada on the right hand side of the road.
The Romans built an arched bathing complex of which 4 chambers amazingly still exist for visitors to witness. Julius Caesar when governor of southern Spain between 63 and 60 BC is said to have visited and cured himself by bathing here. A concrete canopy has recently been erected over the structure so that visitors immerse themselves in the murky waters, somewhat like a mud pack!
Along side the road between the coast and the baths you will also see a 100 meter long stretch of aqueduct, reputedly Roman built. It used to drive a water wheel as part of a mill complex. An old cottage now stands on the foundation of the Moorish/Roman mill house. Water was channelled off from the baths to power the mill.
Castillo de la Duquesa: GPS Location of the castle: 36º 21′ 05” N 5º 14′ 01” W
The circa 18c fortress stands in the middle of what was once a large Roman fishing village, allegedly called ‘Saltum’, but the name still remains unproven. The area was excavated back in 1989 and finds included a bath house, two large chambers and a Roman hot house. White mosaic floors have remained in tact on the site. Between the castle and the main road once stood a Roman villa. Other local finds include fish paste tanks, water conduits and salt pans. A Roman graveyard has also been found a little way away.
The castle was built in 1767 by Francisco Paulino of Seville. King Carlos III granted Paulino a company of cavalry, although it seems he had little use for them!

Situated near to Las Palmeras de Calahonda on Calle Don Jose de Orbaneja are a supermarket, a variety of bars and a couple of good local restaurants and also a children’s playground. At the bottom of the hill you will find a street of many bars and restaurants, which are truly international, ranging from traditional English Fish and Chips to Chinese meals and typical Spanish.
If you are golfer or just fancy having a quick game, only 2 minutes away is Club Siesta Golf. A really nice 9 hole par 3 course, which was designed by Enrique Canales. The course is located on gentle hills and has sweeping views to the sea down below. It has a really nice club house for that relaxing meal and a drink.

Five minutes along the coast road towards Gibraltar we reach the lovely petite Puerto Cabopino, which has a small number of excellent bars and restaurants. Try Albert’s restaurant for that very special occasion and a treat of a meal out! The beach next to the harbour is fabulous and has plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas for visitors to take advantage of. Walk along towards Gibraltar to see the historical Salt Tower.
