The concept of a roof garden is not a new one. In fact, it is centuries old!. If you live in an urban area, your dreams of having a garden may be difficult to achieve. Not so if you consider a roof garden!
More and more communities are encouraging their residents to plant roof gardens. The environmental and psychological benefits are numerous. Not only is gardening a calming and relaxing activity, which can reduce stress related illnesses, it also has great benefits for the environment. Building a rood garden on your home or apartment building decrease storm water runoff, reduce fire risks, help decrease heating and cooling costs and can protect your roof from the effects of ultra-violet light and frost.
There are three types of roof gardens and the three types related to the amount of maintenance they require, the depth of soil and the type of plants they will support. They are:
Extensive living roofs
These are easy to maintain and use little soil. Extensive living roofs are lightweight and lend themselves well for use on sheds, garages and small extensions. As they tend to be harsh environment, suitable plants are ones that are found on cliffs or other harsh environments. While this type of roofs gardens are the easiest to maintain, they also have the least visual appeal.
Semi-extensive living roofs
These garden roofs are more decorative as they have deeper soils which can support a greater variety of plants. However, the increased soil depth makes these types of roof garden more heavy, so a sound structure is require to support them. They combine the relatively low maintenance of extensive living roofs with a more appealing appearance.
Intensive living roofs
These are full-fledged gardens and require large and strong support structures.
One of the main considerations when planning a roof garden is the roof itself. While flat roofs lend themselves the best to roof gardens, it is also possible to green pitched, barreled and domed roofs. An easy access to the roof is also important as I am sure you would not be able to enjoy your roof garden as much if you have to climb a ladder every time you want to look at it. The roof must able be able to support heavy loads. Wet soil can weight about eighty pounds per square foot.
Make sure you install a waterproof membrane to avoid ending up with a wet ceiling. The two most commonly used materials are thermoplastic sheeting or rubberized asphalt. As I am certain that you will not want to dig up your garden to replace the membrane every few years, make sure you select a product that is extremely durable. The next layer should be a filter sheet that will allow the moisture to drain off the roof while ensure that the fine material do not escape. Next comes the moisture blanket which will ensure that an extensive live roof garden has enough moisture to support life. Commercial ones can be purchased however it is also possible to use cardboard or old blankets to the same effect.
The following layer will be a drainage layer. Similar to the moisture blanket, it will help retain moisture while allowing excess water to drain away. They are usually made of plastic or geotextile materials. The top layer will be the soils and substrates. These should be lightweight and freedraining yet retain moisture. One such option is an aggregates mixed with light sub-soild such as crushed porous brick or limestone chippings. Finally come the seeds and plants. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination and the environment. Happy gardening!

To effectively start a football programme collection, a person needs to choose a theme to their collection. There are thousands of programmes available in the United Kingdom, and even more around the world. To give a collection some sort of meaning a theme should be adopted to avoid pointless accumulation and to keep to a designated budget.
Of course, it will sometimes be the case that you come across a football programme that covers or crosses two themes at the same time. These are likely to prove to be valuable purchases in future years as they represent a special or historical occasion, which will revive memories for soccer fans from across the world in the future.
A football programme is a great way to remember a memorable event at a particular match. This could come in the form of some sort of achievement such as a player milestone, which can be featured in the programme itself. A player milestone could come in many forms, such as an appearance record, a goal scoring record, the final match of a players career, a number of years of service by a player, and others.
The sadder side of football is also often recorded in match programmes. These tragic events attract collectors who see them as poignant reminders of the past. They are sought after and valuable as a result. The tragedies at Hillsborough, Ibrox and Bradford have collectible programmes connected with them, not only for the day itself, but also the subsequent commemorative matches.
A very valuable set of programmes to own are those related to the Munich Air Disaster involving the Manchester United team and Busby’s Babes. The programme from the match against Partizan Belgrade who Manchester United were playing on the tragic trip can sell for over a thousand pounds. A similar sum can be obtained for the programme against Sheffield Wednesday directly after the disaster, where the players list wasn’t filled in for the Man United team.
Notable events are usually reflected in the content and style of the programme. Important football programmes to collect are final matches in an old stadium, or the first issue within a new one. Most programmes of this type are abundant with interesting articles and historical information, making them a gem in any soccer programme collection.
Programmes can mean different things to different collectors. You may value a prticular programme highly due to entirely personal reasons and memories which they may conjure up. For other collectors the pursuit is one of passion, finding out more about the history and traditions of a football team that they support. Whatever your reason, collecting football programmes is a very rewarding hobby, and comes highly recommended to any football supporter.

Google lists twenty-six-million motorcycle women webpage’s, each with a unique depiction of what a women motorcyclist is or should be.
To be a motorcycle women you need to belong to this women’s motorcycle club or that women’s motorcycle club, or you need to wear this biker women outfit or that biker women outfit.
Some will even go as far as to tell you that you’re not a true biker chick unless you ride this model motorcycle or that type of motorcycle.
Well biker girl I feel enough is enough. I do not need a wanna-be biker webpage to tell me how to be a motorcycle woman. I know I am a women and I know how to ride my own motorcycle.
What I would like from a women’s motorcycle web page, is information and interesting articles about other women just like me. Women that have a true passion for motorcycling and want to help other women get the strength and courage to get their own motorcycle and learn to ride it.
The other thing that I have noticed about the World Wide Web and women motorcycle webpage’s is the amount of motorcycle women’s boots and apparel webpage’s that really aren’t women’s apparel or motorcycle related.
I would really like to see is a webpage that is for a woman by a woman that knows what I as a motorcycle women want.
So what brought me to this tangent in the first place is, I was on the Internet looking for a webpage that was women related that I could really enjoy and get something out of. I was also looking for a new pair of Harley boots.
Of course, I did a search on Google using the search phrase “motorcycle women”. Google produced millions of motorcycle women related webpage’s, next I searches for motorcycle boots for women.
The thing is, most of the motorcycle women related websites listed on Google really are not. Most of them were webpage’s about everything else with an article or two about motorcycle women or a club or group trying to get me to join. The motorcycle apparel sites were mostly the same. I found that of the webpage’s I found didn’t have what I needed.
I did however find a few great sites that had a lot of information, articles and women’s motorcycle apparel.
Although I did find other good webpage’s that I enjoyed, one stood out far and above the others. It had great information about what the best motorcycle for a woman is. It also had great articles about women riders just like me. It even had a women’s motorcycle mentor program for women that are looking for help getting into motorcycling or an experienced women motorcyclist looking for other women to ride with. I thought that was really neat. I even found the name of the webpage fantastic. The webpage that I found the most informative and enjoyable is “Lace Wheels – Motorcycles and Women”.
The other webpage that I found that fit what I was looking for was truly a webpage just for women. It was a women’s motorcycle boots and apparel webpage just for women that ride motorcycles.
It had what I was looking for, a new pair of women’s Harley Davidson motorcycle boots. It also had a lot of other wonderful boots and motorcycle apparel. Motorcycle apparel like women’s chaps, women’s leather jackets, leather halter-tops and a lot of other motorcycle related items. It wasn’t just a sales webpage either; it had interesting articles as well. I should have known I would find just the right pair of motorcycle boots just by the name of the webpage called “Motorcycle Boots for Women”.
I am not one to spend a lot of time sitting in front of the computer, I would much rather be out ridding my Sportster. So, now that I have found the right places I go on line that give me the information, articles and motorcycle stuff just for me, a woman. I have more time to spend out on the road.
To find these great webpage’s just do a Google search and use the key words “motorcycle women” and “motorcycle boots for women”.
Growing up in Great Falls, Montana during the sixties and early seventies was a motorcycle rider’s paradise. With the exception of the snow, which we sometimes rode in, it was pure heaven.
One of my favorite past times then was going to go to the stock car races on Friday nights during the summer. The races were great, but what everybody actually came out for was the halftime show. There was this guy who would jump his Harley Davidson motorcycle over cars. We all thought it was an amazing display of courage and insanity.
Of course I am talking about Evel Knievel. Back then he was an unknown to most of the world, but to us faithful, this guy from Butte was truly the “main attraction”.
I remember one summer night in the late 60’s when Evel was going to perform at the track. But this night was different. The stock car track was located right next to Highway 91 (Interstate 15). People who did not want to pay to come into the races would park on the highway and watch from their cars or sit on the hillside which gave them a perfect view.
On this evening, Evel grabbed a microphone and announced over the PA system that he would not jump until the people on the hill were gone. He actually said that everybody came to see him die and unless everybody paid to see him take that risk, he would not jump.
There was a standoff for a while. People in the grandstands were yelling to people on the hill to leave. No action came until a fire truck showed up and started to hose them off. Finally, there were all gone and Evel did his jump.
Over the years I saw Evel Knievel jump at least a couple dozen times including his fountain jump at Caesar’s Palace in Vegas. But none have ever held the memory as much as his comments about his possible death at the stock car track.
I think every FMX rider and motorcycle stuntman owes a bit of thanks to the greatest cycle showman of all time. It was Evel who paved the way for an entire new generation, in fact an entire new genre of riding.
Here is to Evel is jumping clouds for eternity. I hope I get admission to the show.

From an outsider’s perspective, casting seems simple – all you do is toss back your arm, then flick it and the pole forward. But of course there’s more to it than just that. In fact, there are a number of different casting techniques, each with its own different strengths and weaknesses. Before you head out to fish, take a little time to work on your casting skills – you’ll enjoy your lazy fishing afternoons so much more when you’re rewarded with a great catch.
When it comes to bass fishing, it’s important to remember to always use your wrist when you cast, not your arm. Using your wrist gives your cast more finesse and reduces the wasted effort that occurs when you use your whole arm. This technique is very important in each of the following three types of cast – the overhand, sidearm, and underhand.
The Overhand Cast
The overhand cast has you aiming at the area straight in front of you. Raise your fishing rod up, making sure to keep your elbow close to your ribs. Flip the rod sharply behind you, and then use your wrist to flip the pole forward. Use the rod’s movement to aim and follow through on your cast.
The Sidearm Cast
In this cast, you’ll be once again facing your target area squarely. This time, though, hold your rod parallel to the water and at waist level. Move the rod sideways and behind you to your right, then whip it forward towards the water.
The Underhand Cast
The underhand method also begins with your rod at waist level and parallel to the water. This time, though, it should be at a 45-degree angle from where you want to cast. Start with your lure six to eight inches down. Quickly move the rod tip in a half-circle formation, releasing the lure when the rod is at the bottom of the circle. Remember to keep the rod tip down and only raise it if you need more distance or control.
In all three types of casting, there are a few key points to remember. When casting, try to minimize the amount of noise and splash your lures make when they hit the water. Always – as stated above – cast with your wrist and not your arm or entire body. It’s also a good idea to drop the lure a few inches before you cast, which will give your cast a little bit of extra momentum.
Casting isn’t the be-all and end-all of bass fishing, of course. While improving and mastering the different types of casting can greatly improve your fishing, it won’t help at all if you don’t have a good rod, reel, selection of lures, etc. Of course, weather and location will always play a factor in fishing, so don’t be discouraged if your new casting techniques don’t work right away. Keep practicing them, and you’ll notice that the amount of bass you catch will increase as you get these casting methods down.
